Frederick, MD — Cochran & Mann President Mike Cochran was recently featured by the American Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Metro Washington. The spotlight includes insights and a behind-the-scenes look at Cochran & Mann and the painting and wallcovering industry.

ABC Metro Washington was the second chapter chartered of the now 69 chapters under ABC National. They are a “pre-eminent advocate for fair and open competition and the merit shop philosophy, and the premiere construction association in the metropolitan Washington, DC area.” They host events, offer resources, and celebrate their members with award competitions and recognition opportunities throughout the year.

“When we signed up 30 years ago, we were just a 5-person shop with a dream of success.,” said Cochran in the ABC member spotlight. "We needed to swim in a big ocean and the ABC connection was perfect. The countless builder relationships that blossomed and are still strong and the trainings at every level helped us grow and succeed."

Cochran & Mann is a nine-time winner of the Subcontractor of the Year Award. Every year, ABC Metro Washington holds the Excellence in Construction Awards (EIC) that recognizes outstanding projects completed by Washington-area ABC members. Cochran & Mann’s spotlight appears ahead of the 2022 EIC Awards, in which they will be competing for their tenth Subcontractor of the Year win.

“The belief that the painting and wallcovering industry is an easy craft to learn, therefore easy to start and operate a business.,” said Cochran when asked about industry misconceptions. “Most homeowners have dipped a brush, painting a room at home and have some basic knowledge to get their job done. The commercial construction painter not only needs to know his products and craft, but know how to navigate the highest level demands of today's building industry.”
